Below are the courses  for YEAR 2 - Senior Pre-Clinical Students.
Year II

The second year of the MBBS program, is exciting for most students. This is simply because of the adjustment to the transition into the study of Medicine. Additionally this year is less stressful for students and past foundation courses reveal their usefulness. Year II is taught at the School of Medicine, located in the Faculty of Health Sciences, Turkeyen Campus, UG.

Semesters: 2  (19 weeks each)

Courses: Morphological and Biomedical Sciences and FHS Core Courses.

Credits:

Year 2
Semester I 17
Semester II 16
Total 33

Other Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) Core courses are required to gain the total credits in this year. See Below for Detailed Courses.

 Regional Anatomy

The course is well defined and has many variant laboratory practices.

Students get to learn and appreciate the structure and function on a regional level, to gain a better handle on surgery.

An External Oral Examination (EOE) follows the end of tjis semester of Anatomy.

 Embryology

A compliment to Anatomy, Embryology defines the "developing human" from conception to birth and exposes students to a complete development of normal and abnormal infants.

Embryology marks the end of the Morphological Sciences of the preclinical years.

 Physiology II

Students gain complete appreciation of the intense biochemical and metabolic changes that occur normally and in diseased states.

There is an EOE  at the end of the second semester.

 Epidemiology

One of the two FHS Core Courses, "Epi." as it is commonly referred to, combines simple analysis of Epidemiological principles and a bit of Biostatistics to give a working knowledge for students pursuing research or just reading study findings for drugs or disease research.

 Management

Designed to challenge all health professionals in the workings of health management from budgeting to conflict resolution. Another FHS Core Course.

 Human Nutrition

An age old concept of 'good eating gives good health' is promoted in this course. Students are given applicable knowledge of healthy diets and development. Along with this, presentation on various foods and groups are presented by students to colleagues to reinforce the practical knowledge.

 Community Medicine

An essential part of the UGSM goal, interaction between doctors and the community is forged with the community research projects.

Recently upgraded CFA I now has a well defined theoretical outline that covers issues from prenatal to geriatric issues. This gives the budding physician an all rounded outlook on the needs and dangers for his/her patients.

 Human Genetics
New discoveries and concepts in this emerging field of medicine creates the need for this course. Genetics in medicine plays a very key role in diagnosis and management of many conditions and thus the need for the essentials of Human Genetics.
   Legal & Ethical Issues
Essential for all students in the health profession. This very interactive course presents with cases and issues warranting tense debating on various, critical, health, issues among students.
   Computer Science
Designed to enlighten students of all faculties, this course displays the general working of basic computer literacy (spread sheets, text editors and programming) along with a few fun items such as web designing.
